Green Homes in Delhi

The capital of India, New Delhi is not lagging behind Bangalore and Mumbai when it comes to adopt the concept of Green Homes in Delhi. The city has experienced major developments in terms of building Green Homes in Delhi. The housing market in Delhi is a huge one with the city having a vibrant population of all kinds of people. This is why the builders are often left confused as to who would be their target and how will be the takers. When the Green Homes concept just took off in Delhi in mid-2003 the professionals were the main takers. This is because the corporate offices and multi national companies were the first institution in the city to go for the all green concept. They eventually placed green rooftop gardens, made separate smoking zones, introduced waste management, and underground sewage plants to manage air, water, and energy pollution.
Energy efficiency and conservation became the motto for several companies. Delhi eventually began to suffer less power cuts in areas where this motto prevailed. According to surveys, the Green Buildings in Delhi began to save about 40 per cent of the power consumption and 20 per cent supply of water. Employees in several companies were motivated to take every initiative to reduce the use of AC machines, avoid wasting water in the toilets, and making proper use of the smoking zones. The green space around the commercial complexes was also increased to allow the oxygen to play well.
The most interesting part was that even the government owned buildings came forward to join the Green Homes development phase in New Delhi. In an announcement made by the cabinet in Delhi in July 2010, the government has proposed to make 15 buildings part of the Green revolution in Delhi. The Delhi secretariat, which houses offices of chief minister and other ministers, will also be converted into a green building under the project.
As part of its energy conservation measures, Delhi Government has already decided to implement the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) for government buildings in the capital city of New Delhi. Another extra effort taken up by the Delhi government is that the targets laid out under the Enhanced Energy Efficiency Mission would be to include more 100 existing buildings with area above 10,000 square feet to make them energy efficient by introducing Green Homes technology in Delhi.
